Green Exhibiting: Lessening Your Environmental Impact in Trade Shows
25 November 2015, Posted by Trade Shows on Trade Shows

With all the talk of global warming and climate change, there is more and more pressure on businesses to lessen their carbon footprint, and this is true for companies that attend / choose to exhibit. With more than 500,000 tons of waste generated from trade shows alone each year (and rising) it is critical we take steps to change the way we exhibit.

Recycled Materials

You can launch your corporate sustainability goals by opting for eco-friendly materials—from your display booth to your giveaways. Many trade show companies provide information on modern exhibit designs that feature renewable elements, low-waste facilities, non-toxic components, and even recycled materials. It is true that green exhibit booth designs can be more expensive than traditional stands but as a long term investment, this type of booth design will go a long way to creating talking points and helping achieve your sustainability goals.

Environmental Giveaways

While giveaways are a staples on a tradeshow floor, we can choose items made from biodegradable and non-toxic materials and other products that are sustainable. You can even opt to give away seedlings and potted plants to reinforce your move of reducing your environmental impact.

Go Paperless

Printed marketing materials are the number one discarded item at a trade expo. So as much as possible, qualify your target audience and limit the number of flyers, brochures, and corporate materials you give away. Better yet, opt for digital versions. Send electronic invites to follow up on your leads and set up LCD screens on-site to introduce your products and services.

Encourage Recycling

To help manage waste, prepare colour-coded and labelled trash bins in your vicinity. This way, attendees and even your fellow exhibitors will be more conscious of throwing their rubbish in the correct bin.

Improving your company’s sustainability goals will not only help lower expenses, but by practising eco-friendly strategies, you are passively creating a positive PR for your company. In today’s environmentally friendly world, consumers are undeniably drawn to business that seek to lower their carbon footprint. Every advantage counts.
